Assignment 2 – post tutor feedback reflection

I found this assignment very challenging and although the feedback from my tutor was valid, I decided not to re-shoot the assignment. This was partly as I felt that if I followed the feedback I would be trying to shoot someone else’s assignment and in part because I had intended to start again from scratch with a different subject. In the end I did neither partly due to the amount of time I spend re-working assignment four and also because of family commitments. I think what I learned from this assignment is that I struggle with abstract concepts and more … Continue reading Assignment 2 – post tutor feedback reflection

Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – Tutor feedback

My feed back for assignment 2 can be read here. If I’m honest I think the written feedback is more positive than our skype call but either way I have no issue with it as I think it is an accurate reflection of the work submitted. I think the feedback reflects the struggles I had with this assignment and so it was not a suprise and I think there are two things that I can take out of it, first that I need to be clear in my mind what I am trying to communicate and I know that this … Continue reading Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – Tutor feedback

Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – reflection

I found this assignment challenging and indeed the whole narrative aspect of photography is not somehting that comes readily to me. When I initially read the brief the idea of electricity was one that came to mind but I think I discounted it as I felt that it did not have and emotional element to it. Looking at other students’ blogs a lot of work for this assignment seemed to be very personal and relate to challenges they faced in their life. I think I got bogged down in trying to create images that I judged were worthy or meaningful … Continue reading Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – reflection

Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – Taken for granted

I struggled to get started with this assignment and by the time of my scheduled call with my tutor I had taken no photographs and really had no idea of how to move forward. In the end I narrowed my choices down to two topics, electricity and faith and chose to go with electricity as I thought it would be easier to complete in the time available. Obviously we can’t see electricity, flicking a switch on a socket is not like turning on a tap, nothing comes out. What I wanted to portray is the paradox between this force that … Continue reading Assignment 2 – Photographing the unseen – Taken for granted

Assignement 2 – Photographing the unseen

Having emailed my tutor about the two themes I was thinking of developing, and having had a response that they both met the brief, I have decided to progress with electricity and I am hoping to get a major part of it shot over the bank holiday weekend. In a change to how I usually work I have complied a shot list and am now working through where I can find locations for some of the pictures I want to take e.g. solar farms, wind turbines and sub-stations. Having prevaricated for so long I am keen to get started and … Continue reading Assignement 2 – Photographing the unseen

Assignment 2 – Photographing the Unseen – hiatus

It has been about a month and half since started thinking about possible subjects to photograph for this assignment and in that time I’ve made no progress. Instead I’ve been working through exercises and taking photographs not related to the course but much of this has been displacement activity. After much toing and froing I have decided to look at two options, electricity and faith. My reason for looking at two options is purely practical, given the length of time I have spent prevaricating I wanted a subject that I could complete relatively quickly which is one of the main … Continue reading Assignment 2 – Photographing the Unseen – hiatus

Assignment 2 – intitial thoughts

For this assignment there are two options, first photographing the unseen; creating a series of images of a subject that might be deemed to be unphotographable. The second option is using props, to produce a set of images using either a white shirt or a handkerchief to suggest a narrative. My initial thoughts are that both options seem challenging but that of the two photographing the unseen is the one I find the more engaging. Having decided on option one, the next step is to make a list of at least seven potential ideas and for these to be subjects … Continue reading Assignment 2 – intitial thoughts
